Sweet nuggets of relevancy

The Kamusi project is one of those deserving projects, it is a project dedicated to the Swahili language. It intends to create a dictionary. A dictionary that has been worked on for many years. A resource to be proud of.

It is only lacking in this one resource.. money.. If it does not find money it will pack it in. They are now finishing off software so that the project will be in the best shape it can be. I truly hope that the Kamusi project will find its way into a bright future. If you can help, please do :)

Thanks,
GerardM

I just had a closer look to the Kamusi project and it is very interesting in contents and would need some more relevancy. The problem with such small projects is exactly that: they are known only to a certain number of people, they will anways have difficulties to survive due to lack of financing. Now when it comes to these considerations I would say that in order to assure to be able to go ahead it would make sense to co-operate with the Wikimedia projects - with Wikipedia for the Africa guide (there could well be a separate project page or a static html page that leads from the Kamusi project to the single Wikipedia articles) and with WiktionaryZ for the terminology.

Another thing I do really not understand is why they work with LinksSQL, well I have translated the UI for some Gossamer Threads products into German and built myself a portal with LinksSQL - it is quite easy to do that, but then again: why not use software like Drupal, PhPNuke, Xoops who can cover these functions and are GPL and therefore free software?

I would very much like to help their project - and if it is within Wikipedia and WiktionaryZ it would be quite possible to do that.
